A Hwasong-12 ballistic missile was launched from North Korea on August 29th 2017. It passed over Hokkaido, the second largest island of Japan. The missile traveled 1700 miles and reached a peak height of 340 miles. The missile is capable of traveling 3000 miles.
This was the second successful test of the Hwasong-12 ballistic missile. Previously, there was three unsuccessful tests. North Korea had two previous instances of flying an object over Japan. The other objects are not believed to explicitly have been missiles.
