In 2020, the possibility of all out war looms over our heads during the coronavirus pestilence. Global governments demonstrate their devastating powers while much of the world is in a weakened state. On January 3 2020, Iranian General Quassem Soleimani was killed by a US drone in Baghdad. The Iranian government condemned the strike and responded by launching missiles at US bases. The missiles caused damage, but took no lives.
On March 11 2020, US military forces were attacked by militias in Iraq. In early April 2020, Iranian naval vessels taunt US vessels in international waters. On April 22 2020 Donald Trump posted on Twitter, "I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea." Militant groups in Iraq want to push out the US, while Trump wants the US to continue the invasion.
Iran launched it's first military satellite called the Noor on April 22 2020. The satellite was launched into a 426 x 44 km / 59.8 degree orbit. Us and European governments condemn the Iranian Space Agency claiming it may develop the ability to develop an ICBM. Iran's Space Agency will continue to grow in it's capabilities. Iran's navy is also looking to implement nuclear propulsion for it's submarines.
Tensions between the West and Middle East run deeper than a few isolated incidents. As technology develops around the world, militaries gain advantage over each other. In the Western nations, people are wired by news media to support war, but mostly aren't given the full story. In the Middle East, ancient cultures with staunch religions grow into the modern age bringing a complex plane of politics with it.
Western nations have terrorized the Middle East in violent modern crusades. All governments must be limited in power and held accountable for their actions. This includes the US and the Iranian government. One prominent, but isolated incident demonstrating US terrorism is footage published by Julian Assange on Wikileaks. In the footage, the US military in Baghdad massacres over a dozen unarmed people including children. With all of this violent history, how will we find peace around the globe?
