Up To 190 Billion In Damages For Texas Resulting From Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey reached the US shore near Rockport Texas on August 25, 2017. Since then, there are fifty people from the US and one from Guyana who have been killed by the storm. Also, approximately one million people have been displaced and two hundred thousand homes damaged. Overall, the state of Texas has seen anywhere from 70 to 190 billion dollars in damage costs.

Many of the damages and losses were sustained by home owners without insurance. A disaster proclamation to allocate federal funds for relief efforts was signed by president Trump. US Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin made the argument to congress to raise the US debt ceiling for disaster relief. Many individuals and groups from the private sector have been putting in serious work to help the relief effort. It will likely take years to fully recover.
